tis the season for giving PRESENTS!
OUR GIFT TO YOU IS HELPING avoid any stress & disappointment

The present situation
Even when you take Christmas out of the equation (Christmas? Already? Yes, did you not see the pile of advent calendars stocked in your local supermarket in October!) we’re very much a nation of givers. In fact, a recent poll of 2,000 adults in the UK suggests we purchase an average of 32 gifts each year. Thirty-two! And we can spend anywhere from £13 to £69 a time. Yikes!
But the problem with being such a generous gift-loving bunch, is the question of what we actually give. You don’t want to be tarred with the dull brush. Nor, do you want to be considered ‘tight’.
No, you want to inspire! So, in this blog, we thought we’d have some fun and (hopefully) inspire you to make the best present purchases you’ll ever make.
From salt to slippers
Hunting for presents can be daunting. So, we went searching for some inspo. Then we got a bit silly. Hey, we did say we’d have some fun.
Nonetheless, here are a few of the whacky and interesting things we found:
MOST EXPENSIVE
We looked up the most expensive gift ever bought. It turns out it’s one of the seven wonders of the world. The Taj Mahal was purchased for $870M (in current money). A swanky pad for the wife of Mughal ruler Shah Jahan.
We did the maths. For that, you could buy every person in Sri Lanka one of our legendary Hoppers. Now that’s a gift!
MOST BIZARRE
As you can imagine, there are lots of contenders for this one. We narrowed it down a bit and found that even our late Queen (God bless you, your Maj) couldn’t escape the curse of the rubbish present. On her 90th birthday, the Governor of the British Virgin Islands gifted her one pound of salt.
Even if you’re ever lucky enough to receive a gift of salt (for example, pink Himalayan salt from TK Maxx, if you’re not important enough to know the Governor of the British Virgin Islands), rest assured, there’s no need to bring it to any of our restaurants. We’re a dab hand at a bit of seasoning.
MOST HATED
Finally, the slippers. There once was a time when slippers were voted the most hated present of all. We think that’s a little harsh. But the public has spoken. That said, between you and us, if you came to one of our restaurants in your box-fresh slippers, we’d still welcome you. It’s part of our laid-back Sri Lankan charm. Food tastes best when you feel at home, right?
A gift that never fails
We know. We’ve lit the touchpaper. Now your mind is racing with all the people you need to buy presents for this Christmas, not to mention all the birthdays between now and the 25th of December. It’s a lot.
We have the perfect solution for all occasions: The Coconut Tree Gift Voucher.
Imagine a gift that brings friends and family together. A gift that delivers a table-full of delicious flavour-packed Sri Lankan food. A gift that serves epic cocotails and beach vibes whatever the time of year. A gift that overflows with good food, good people & good times.
You see, slippers are hated. Salt is just weird. And the Taj Mahal, well, that’s just silly.
A night out with loved ones or lunch with your bestie is about memories. And they last longer than anything you wear on your feet.
So go on, treat them to a slice of paradise. They’ll love it. And they’ll love you in return.
TCT.
